Paula Y. Smith

Paula
Y. Smith provides consulting services to ACS Unclaimed
Property Clearinghouse, Inc., in Boston, Massachusetts,
in the development and marketing of unclaimed property
reporting services.
Ms.
Smith graduated cum laude from Smith College and received
her J.D. Degree from the University of Texas Law School.
In 1983, after several years in private practice, Ms.
Smith became Director of the Unclaimed Property Division
under then State Treasurer Ann W. Richards. During her
tenure in this position, Ms. Smith held many offices
in the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators,
including the office of President.
Ms.
Smith served as an Observer to the work of the 1995
Uniform Unclaimed Property Law Drafting Committee, appointed
at the request of the National Association of Division
Order Analysts.
Ms.
Smith currently serves as the secretary of the Unclaimed
Property Holder Liaison Council and received the President’s
Award for 2001.
Ms.
Smith has authored numerous white papers and articles
on unclaimed property administration for various publications,
such as Solutions in Practice®, the journal of unclaimed
property law and affairs published by the ACS Unclaimed
Property Clearinghouse, as well as Internal Auditor
Magazine, and the magazine of the American Bankers Association.
She has presented on abandoned property topics at conferences
such as those of the National Association of Division
Order Analysts and the Corporate Trust Association.
Ms.
Smith’s other interests include habitat protection for
endangered species, such as the black-capped vireo and
the Texas snowbell. She is a life member of The Nature
Conservancy.
